Richard E. Cox, 74, of Coshocton passed away October 22, 2021 at Aultman hospital after battling Covid-19.
On September 16, 1947 he was born to the last Charles Cox and Betty (Hahn) Cox.
Richard was a 1965 Coshocton High School graduate. In 1968, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. After an honorable discharge, he married the love of his life, Kay (Patterson) in 1969.
Richard was passionate about a lot of different things. He was the former owner of Cox’s Bait Shop, an avid hunter and fisherman, enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports, Friday night football games, the Cleveland Browns, cornhole, camping, gardening, canning, woodworking, educating himself and others that gave him the opportunity, a great storyteller, YouTube lover, and most of all… spending time with his wife.
He was a member of the Eagles, Moose, Am Vets, Army Navy and the American Legion where he held the office of Commander.
Richard is survived by his mother, wife, and his 4 children Linda Murray of Coshocton, Valerie (Barry) Stephens of Dresden, Charles (Tawnya Barker) Cox of Coshocton, Heather (Wayne) Lauvray of Coshocton. He had 14 grandchildren Jodi McNichols, Rikki Cox, Selena Murray, Drew Anderson, Tara Stephens, Ty Stephens, Solomon Cox, Sophia Cox, Kelsey Crown, Zachary Crown, Brandon Crown, Thomas Lauvray, Nevaeh Lauvray, and Blake Lauvray, 16 great-grandkids and 3 sisters Bonnie (Kenny) Wood of Indiana, Clara Jane (Ed) Elliott of Coshocton, and Betsy Milligan of Coshocton.
Richard is preceded in death by his father, 2 granddaughters Lindsay Barr and Katrina Cox and 1 great-granddaughter Kaylee McNichols.
Funeral will be Wednesday, 1:00pm at the Free Funeral Home with burial to follow at South Lawn Cemetery with Pastor Steve Young officiating. Calling hours will be Tuesday evening from 5:00pm-8:00pm at the funeral home.
